Hi Guys,

Because I failed miserably at trying to aquascape a 4foot tank on a shoestring and not actually been in the game that long the critique my tank post of Lost in Transition has sadly come to a stand still. I tried but failed. So anyways, I have a smaller tank, 1ft, which I am scaping. Very basic, Rocks and HC. nothing else.

I have followed a rather nice tutorial on HC nano's form this post

I have put the clingfilm over the top and am using a Dennerle 11w Nano. I have seen the shop successfully grow this plant using this light. I am growing it emersed.

what is the exact tank size that you are using out here? scape seems nice but to enhance the beauty of it I would say put in the E.Tenellus at the back of the two bigstones. One of the sides at the back could have been a bit higher that the other, but never the less a good start! would keep an eye..:) thanks for sharing!
 
Thanks Abh, although I don't have any E.Tenellus, it is HC. Or do you mean buy some and put some there? lol.

Bear in mind the last pic is the back of the tank so though I know what you mean about the height, when you see it from the correct way round it looks ok.

yep meant that itself..:) if the height is alright then it's just fine. Give an update once it all grows up..:)
 
Looks great to me. I'd plant E tennelus when you fill it myself though, presumably you'd want to use it as a highlight rather than as a carpet which is my reason for prefering to plant it afterwards rather than before. Not that I think it needs it...

Where did you see the dennerle light in action?
 
I saw it at the Aqua Jardin shop in Southampton Garuf.

It all seems to working ok so far, the HC is growing little by little. There are some yellowing of the bigger older leaves but there is new growth coming through. Someone on another forum said this is do to with the fact that it was bought submersed and now im growing it emersed and it is nothing to worry about as long as there is new growth coming through.

I know I have to pump it with lots of Co2 once I fill it. Might be looking for more help when it gets to that stage. Will be a month or so yet.

Will post some more pics when there is more progress :)

Thought it might be Aquajardin. They're good lights are the dennerle ones, shame they're so expensive. If there's yellowing consider adding ferts, if you look up Original's iwagumi he's recently had issues with yellowing, it might be useful to compare and contrast.
 
Thanks Garuf, I will have a look. Although over the last few days the yellowing seems to have stopped so I assume it is to do with the change from it growing submersed to emersed.

Also I took a pic a couple of weeks ago to put up of the progress and never got round to putting it up. So I am going to put it up now but the plant has gone mad in the last week so I need to take another photo lol.

Your theory on adaptation seems likely, plants recycling nutrients to adapt and the like but I had it in my head that the hc you bought was already emerse which would suggest a deficiency but if not then who knows, emerse is largely a mystery to me so I'm happy to listen to others experiences.
 
Yeah it was bought submersed. The only thing that is worrying me now is the change from Em to Sub, I will pump it silly with Co2 but im thinking about the dosing regime. Will need to get that sorted as well till it adapts to being upderwater again.

I know that people have had a hard time if it was grown emersed then submered but not sure if people have had a hard time with it if it was grown submersed then left to grow and flourish emersed and then submersed again like mine will be.

Am I overthinking this lol

You will need to dose from the off, plants still need food while transitioning, water changes will still be important to remove waste and algae spores.

is a good overview. I add 1/2tspn per 20us gallons mgso4 to my mix because I have softer water and get magnesium deficiencies.
 
Ok cheers for that Garuf. Is that dry or a mixed up with water solution?

The tank's looking great!

The quantity is for if it was dosed dry but I don't dose dry I use a mix with just tap water.

Have a read of the source article and it outlines it far better than I can and if you've issues I'll try and iron them out. :)

Here is a sample of how the reference 20 US gallon tank could be dosed:

Sunday 50% or more Water Change then dose [3/16 teaspoon KNO3] + [1/16 teaspoon KH2PO4] + [½ teaspoon MgSO4]
Monday 1/16 teaspoon CSM+B
Tuesday - [3/16 teaspoon KNO3] + [1/16 teaspoon KH2PO4] + [½ teaspoon MgSO4]
Wednesday - 1/16 teaspoon CSM+B
Thursday - [3/16 teaspoon KNO3] + [1/16 teaspoon KH2PO4] + [½ teaspoon MgSO4]
Friday Rest
Saturday - Rest
