Simple photography question

So I'm new to this hobby, but since I have started I have seen many beautiful tanks and aquascapes, all of them fueling my imagination and creative thought processes. However, just as important as the tank itself, is the ability to showcase and present your work. To show others what you see day in and day out.

Is there a way to make photographs from a phone look more professional? How do you avoid having a reflection of yourself or phone in the background of your tank. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to spend the money on a nice camera but even then I still need to learn the basics of photography. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good websites or tutorials to point me in the right direction?

J.Art has a podcast on photography which is well worth a listen to IMO. The other podcasts are excellent too with lots a tips and tricks, well worth a listen as well. Would post a link but on iPad ATM.

In addition to the podcast episode, Aquascaping Photography, there are several simple things you can do.

1) Block all the extraneous light in the room. Windows, doors, monitors, tv, etc.
2) Use some black poster or foam board around the front edges of the tank to prevent any light from the tank that is not leaving through the front panel entering the camera.
3) Try to set a couple settings on your phone to get the best photo possible. White balance, ISO, etc.

One more point to add take the photos at night if you have external windows or light from connecting rooms.

Even if you have the perfect setup nothing beats practice and more practice.
