pH Controller

pH controllers aren't a good way to control CO2 because pH is only one factor that should be used to estimate CO2 levels. KH in combination with pH can give an estimate of CO2 levels. Secondly, there are other things that effect pH in a planted tank besides CO2.

So in short, a controller isn't the wisest investment for controlling CO2 addition. It is useful to know pH at given points throughout the day in relation to kH in order to estimate CO2 levels, so a pH probe can be useful in that manner. You may be better off purchasing a very good KH test kit and a simple pH tester, then do periodic tests throughout your photoperiod to track your CO2 levels throughout the day, which can help dial in the CO2.

Personally, I ended up selling my pH controller. It can provide a measure of safety if you set it to a point where it will be a fail safe to prevent overdosing CO2.

Thanks Shawn, you have saved me time and money there. I'll be happy to invest that money in a good KH and pH tester.

Is anyone able to provide an explanation of how to measure KH + pH to give an estimate of CO2 levels?
