Let's see Your Killies...

Unfortunately, one of my External Flashes gets out of order…So, I have to improvise…
The result - that is one same fish, but looks different because the different type of lightning:
On the first photo, the external flash is above the tank.
On the second photo, the flash is straight/ In front of the tank.
So, what do you think – which photo looks better?

you are asking us to pick between two spectacular photographs...

but if I had to choose, I would pick the first one. I think the lighting looks more natural. The colors aren't as iridescent, however I think they have more richer and have more texture in the first, especially the aqua-green of the tail and dorsal fin.

The top pic is the better!

Can i just add one of my Killis...BTW Hristo, how you manage to catch these fish still is beyond me, you have some skill.

Thank you everyone for the comment!
ianho, you have to use external flash(better two!), then you may to choice more proper camera options(faster shooter speed and closer aperture)!

So, here is a couple more shots with frontal flashing:

Your collection of pictures is wonderous!! What jewels they all are! We just had a lecture for our monthly meeting at the local fish club here in S.L.C. The slides were amazing and you must be very proud of your critters. This is a really great thread. Question...are they really as jumpy as I have heard? Do you really have to celliphane you tank with Wrenalds wrap to keep them in??

Thanks for sharing your photos, Folks!
Dusan, nice Killi collection you got there and it's always a big pleasure to enjoy with the good shots like yours!

Here is one more of my Handsome Nothos:

Hristo thank you for your kind words about my photos. The fact that it comes from you is even more flattering.

I was out of hobby about ten years, but now I am back. I already got some Notho eggs, so I will try to make some new interesting photos of these beautiful fish.

Now I use Canon 350d :) with 380EX flash. I usually use reversed lens of old Russian camera Smena 8

and results are not bad at all:

As soon as I make some new killie photos I will post.

If you are in contact with Nako Nakov send him my regards. Long time ago we tried to establish Balkan killifish association with our Romanian friend Dan Rasiga. But it seems it was too early.
