Hi, i'm about to get a 50 litre tank. Is the lighting absolutely necessary? For the aquarium to look good, i think it's mandatory. so should i go with LED panel?

LED colors are poor if using only white diodes. Supplementing with other colors to fill in the lack of spectrum is essential to producing excellent results. Otherwise, fluorescent tubes are much easier to get the best color rendition.

If wish to have a healthy looking tank with plants its a simple answer "Yes"

Lighting there are several basic types Fluro and LED.
For the standard aquarium plants Fluro T5 or T8 do a good job.
If you wish to grow the more exotic/harder to grow plants LED is the way to go.

Before you buy any thing I suggest you start another Topic in Journal reason ever thing you want to know/understand will all be in the one location.

LED's are more economical in fact. Fluoroscent T5's and T8's selection is also rather wide. You should get the idea from this guide.

Yes only to run but far more expensive than the old fluro tube.
