I don't mean to be harsh but is anyone a fan of undergravel filters?
I foresee the filter being a long term issue. A root nightmare along with trapping waste inside the tank. Once you achieve that perfect setup you don't want to have to dig out the filter underneath it all.

Undergravel filters are not suited with planted tanks. They take all nutrients from the substrate and hurl it out in the water. When you change the water, all nurients are gone = big mistake in planted tanks.
Usually we intent to build up a rich layer of nutrients in the substrate and leave it there for the plants.

undergravel filters are very cheap ones - often used in lightly planted shrimp tanks

for planted tanks as Kristoffer said, external filters are the best.
