my brother has a 60l tank and is gonna set it up. i gave him a choice of 3 t5 24w bulbs or the metal halide 150w. isn't 150w too much??? he will ahve co2 aswell.

It is too much - you can follow a simple rule that is 1w per litre to start - but the most important is that you have the light in equilibrium with co2 and the fertilization

for 60l tank 2x 24W T5 is enough. You can use 150W MH, but I will not recomen it unless you really know what you are doing. Put it this way, the more intense the light, the faster plants grow and that include algae.

You can control very well halide by hanging it very high. But it wont be energy efficient and you will pay more for electricity. 2x24w T5 is enough to grow anything on this size tank.

thanks for the advice, i was already rooting for a double 24w, but isn't 3 a bit better so that he'll have 72w/60 liters. a good 1,2w/L. any good soils? dont suggest ADA cause i can't get it here in spain and it's out of the budget since we'll probably have to ship it in. but i was looking at volcanit or flourite or JBL MANADO. or maybe a mix of 2 substrate. and the substrate must be steady enough that we won't ahve to add a top layer of something else. understand??. is an eheim 2211 good enough for this tank?? 60l tank

It's a good choice too. You have the option of at any time turn off one the lamps.
Concerning to the filter I would go for something higher like a classic 2215 for instance.

@ lalmeida isn't a 2215 too big and strong for a mere 60l tank. the size is 60x30cm. i think the 2215 is gonna creat an ocean inside his tank and might stress the fish out with the much current.maybe a 2213, let's meet half way.

When I suggested the 2215 filter I was thinking on a planted aquarium...in that case it would be my choice. However between you have the 2213.

I never see 3x24W before but I do see 4x24W. You buy 4x24 and take out 1 or 2 of the bulb depend on your need.
