I have heard mixed results about this, have any of you had any experience in it?
If you are talking dwarf puffer, my experience is with a female. Never touched shrimp. Have you read the infomation at dwarfpuffers.com?
Yes i have but i guess with mixed results you can't really know.
I had a dwarf puffer that hunted down my cherry shrimp...it even attacked the bigger sized ones.
With DP's its hard to know what they will do. It really comes down to the personality of the fish. Both females & males can be equally agressive.
If you already have a DP then I would first try Ghost shrimp to see how they react to that shrimp. If you don't have a DP already then I would not chance it. DP's or any puffer really do best in a species only tank.
I kept some dwarf puffers for 6 months and eventually had to get rid of them (my male decided to try to kill the females) and they tore apart some CR shrimp I put in the tank. They are great fun to keep but I would recommend a backup QT tank in case of aggression (this can take months to surface).
