There is a massive difference between conditioning the water and adding a product that will keep your filter very healthy with a good bacteria.

I will promote any good product I have used. The products I will certainly not promote are the LFS products that they will tell you "Its as good as" and a lot cheaper.

Or products way past (yes even years) the Used By Date and told its OK to use.

My dw has a little white film over it, I can get a little bit off each time I syphon a water change (basically daily). What is it? How do get rid of it?

Its on most new DW its not a problem and will go away very quickly.

The other way is take it out and give it a good strong hosing but in your case with that DW I would leave it alone.

Update: added my two Corry's and my white Betta I took out of his bowl to see how he looks in the tank. I might still try to add about 8 dwarf Rasbora's. It was just a quick snapshot with my heater + thermometer in the tank.

You certainly require colour to lift your tank.

Do you have a top on your tank if not remember Bettas are great jumpers.

Maybe American Bettas can't jump lol just kidding. Yeah that's never been the case for me, they are either lazy or spending their time bullying.

Ok, so he jumped out. Yeah I know, you were right. Other than that, this tank is super low maintenance. I change out one gallon of water twice a day. I have only two emerald Corry's in there, and my tank is ALWAYS clean. Last weekend my tank got cloudy over night, I did double the water change, and it was crystal clear in two days. I love this tank, it's small, looks nice, and next to no maintenance. It's not at a spot that's seen too often, which makes it's low maintenance perfect.

That's also the best part about having a hardscape, it doesn't change! Lol

You can always add or remove a few rocks.

What are those brown specks on the substrate?

Once the DW and rocks age it will give you another dimension.

Those are pieces of the big substrate I originally had in the tank before sand.
How old are the stones and wood now?
