The problem with that one is that it doesnt stand up on its own. Its quite thin and very wide so it cannot balance.

use substrat to hold it stand up. push the stone in substrat. have a look in my thread "Iwagumi in 45days" the central rock is about 10kg and it is about 5cm in substrat and its standing nice. however you'll have to partially buried in sand all of your rock to get natural look. Do not look for excuses that you can not make it right. of course you can! :)
sorry if there's some mistakes in my english

What do y'all think about breaking the square column looking rock into 2 bits diagonally, from the top right to the bottom left? The would give me 2 soeishi to use with the big Oyaishi and slightly smaller Fukuishi.

Hahaha! Okay. I'll try and split it tomorrow. I only get one shot at it though so it needs to be right. Any suggestions on the 2 shapes and sizes I should go for?

There is no way you can ruin the rock.. :) It will only look better.

Drill some holes on it first, so that it breaks the way you want it to break.

Perhaps I willl try and break it in to 3 pieces. I'm thinking diagonally across and then one of the 2 bits in half again. That way I will have 2 smaller stones and one larger one that I can lie up against something.

    i also use dragon rock.
i have bought some big pieces just to smash them...
i just took the rock and trew it to a solid wall for a few times.
maybe a bit radical if you need to buy your rocks online but for me they can out realy good!!!
    very natural shapes.
(sorry for the english but i hate translator :p )

will start a topic of my tank in a minute :p

Good job, looking much better. I like first version of the top one and the second with two islands as well. The oly thing in the top vesion move them to the right to be 1/3 of a tank lenght from the left.
If you go for 2 islands then move them both off the walls to the center about 3-4 inches as well.
    Take your time ;)

I was playing around with it today and I discovered I really like the look of 2 distinct sections. Moving them to the middle is a great idea. That will free the sides for more plant and will help the look I am trying to achieve. Thanks for the tip :)

Thats nice. If you can lean the main rock right a bit, just an inch or two and you are there. You can try and push the rocks into the substrate an inch or so to give it more stable look as well. Its looking very well already anyway. :tea:
    Got any planting ideas already?
