I am sure that many will cheat to reach top 100 once the pass the first hurdle.

This is going to be an interesting competition.

Cheat is such a strong word Luis. Lobby! Take a cue from the USA where lobbying gets things done! 8)

I can guarantee that the second round will be a failure. I strongly believe that leaving an internet poll ,only to hobbyists , publishers and aquarium shops is a certain way to get false or unfair results.

I agree and the final round is going to be in favour of the country with the most attendees. Guess which?

That too ! Stan has a point here..
Only NA Party participants will vote in the final round :-?
I am thinking that with the new rules, there is no motive for me any more, to participate in IAPLC 12. Even if my tank deserves a top ranking I believe that it will never get- even to top100 , since I come from a small country, I am not a famous aquascaper , I dont have friends in the internet voting poll...and I certainly will not cheat in any way.
Somebody will say "just for the joy of the participation" and I will agree with that to a point. But every participant wants the best and secretly hopes for a good result -even in the winning category. Now they are taking this hope away with the new rules.

The good news are that Aquavida Aquascaping Contest is going to be resurrected and hopefully even better organized for 2012.

I understand the volume and the demand from judges that this no# of aquascapes require, but the suggestions are bias.

If I did research in this manner, I'd get laughed at, ridiculed and would have cans of spam tossed at me. The submission would not even be allowed.
It is a private company, they can do whatever they chose. Still, such obvious errors does harm to their contest.

I agree, but I don't know if this is suppose to be a highly scientific methodology. I mean look at the Academy Awards, etc, American Idol, etc. There is always bias builit in by skews to various demo groups. If they wanted to there are some easy adjustments that can be done to the voting like weighting each response based on percent of country, etc. Round 2 does concern me as well. I mean in the USA I don't know too many LFS other than the ADA distributors that know anything about aquascaping. So "garbage in garbage out."

It sounds more and more like a "funny" voting concept.

The known aquascapers will get more votes, the countries with more presence will get better rankings and the newbies will get relegated to either just participants or mass voters for the ones supposed to win.

The good thing is that there are other competitions to get your name into, and there will be more competition to iaplc.

Also, the forums are good for displaying new works, and get some feedback.

LOBBYISTS! AAAHHHH!:-s Maybe ADA just wants free dinners and fancy wine for judges :)

they get things done, but it is hardly and rarely in the interest for the common good...
