I think thats down to personal preference. I dont think anyone here uses the same exact set up as anyone else. You need to think about how you want it to look when its done and kinda work backwards getting all the bits you need. Personally I would start with the hardware (Co2,heater,lights etc) as this is by far the biggest cost. Plants etc are cheap and pretty easy to save up for. Without Co2 and sufficient lighting you wont have the look you described before so sort that out and the rest will follow pretty quick. Thats whats working for me anyway :)

You got $50, I am sure that free shipping is not applying to Australia, but will let the shops say it, I may be wrong.

    Do this:
    - Go to a pet shop, or call them, and get some aquarium sand.
    OR
    ---
    - Look for pool filter sand, cheap and may be easily found on your area. Silica sand is good. Play sand for kids may also be a cheap way to get some substrate.

    - Get rocks from the countryside

    - Look for safe wood

    - Spend the money on a filter

    - No need for heater, isn't Australia hot? :)

    - Get some florescent lights, nothing fancy

    - Get some java ferns and anubias

    - Add fish, white cloud minows are good.

    Otherwise do this:

    Amazing aquascape, and fantastic setup!

Also, look on Ebay for a Co2 system. It takes longer but you will save alot of $$$. Alot.

About UG, if you do not have co2 and strong light the plant is hard to keep.

Its worth the wait buddy. Even after you have everything it still takes time. I have had my tank for 3 weeks and havent even got water in it yet! You could fill your time by reading up about layouts and stuff. My layouts suck so I gotta do alot of reading up today and have another go at it tonight.
