Been looking for a fish that I can keep a small school of in my new 14 gallon/54 litre tank. I've decided to try the Galaxy Rasbora, which I am sure most of you have heard about or even kept :)

My question is how big a number would be suitable in a planted tank of this size? I was thinking of getting ten as a start and then perhaps breed a couple more. I will also have three otocinclus affinis in the tank. AqAdvisor said it was fine, but I'd also just like to ask some of the more experienced fish keepers ;)

    Thanks in advance!

20-25 would be about your maximum BUT it would depend on your filter if it was a average type filter 20 and if it was a high quality next size up even 25-30.

The bigger the number the greater the water change and being such a small tank two 30% water changes a week.

Been thinking of using the Eheim 2213 canister.

Thanks for the quick response :)

I was just looking at them this week. I love the look of them but heard they hide a lot.

I wouldn't mind them hiding. Half of keeping a tank is the plants and the other half is the fish :)

That filter might be too powerful for your small tank its rated for a 250

I think it depends on the tank and what they are in with I have them in the very heavily planted and the swim mainly mid level and towards the front of the tank.

I only know of one LFS in Melb that sells them and will post them to you.

The filter wouldn't be too powerful, it doesn't meet the 10x rule generally used on planted tanks though at 440lph it's nearly there, I personally find 2213's a bit gutless and would personally go a model above for what I assume is a 60x30x30 ish tank?

Nice fish but jumpers and like a lot of fine plant mass. Can be very timid too, I've read they need dither fish to bring them out of hiding but I've never tried them myself.

Go for 15 and work from there I would say.

They don't shoal as well as most tetras I've been told. I've never kept them but looked at some at my local shop and they are very pretty and tiny fish.

I was tempted last time I re-scaped my 75l which is similar in size to your tank but ended up going for ember tetras.

I have Galaxys, it's true that they like to hide. Sometimes I even don't know where...!?
Minimum is 8-10 so think about 16-20 pcs. I think is good to have some other fish that will take them from hideout. It's working in my case.
