Which of these fish would you choose for an active school in a driftwood/rock only 40g tank? I am aiming for nice color, small size, relative hardiness & schooling tendency. I'll probably get up to 20 fish (slowly)for the school and a couple corys. I've had a lovely big school of rummies and then harlequin rasboras over the years, so looking to do something different.

    My finalists:

    red phantom tetras
    ember tetras
    white cloud mtn. minnows
    cherry barbs

Phantom tetras doesn't really school unless they scared. Ember tetra school tightly but they are small so you probably need more than 20. I have about 40-50 of them in my 3ft tank around 50gal

Never try minnows and barbs, can't comment.

I hope you mean a school of Cories as well. They look great in a group also and will play and be much more active :)

    +1 for Embers
