   After letting my tank cycle for a week when I was away on business, I came back to find a thick translucent scum over my bubble diffuser???. Any ideas??.

   Most likely a natural bio-protien layer/film. Not a big deal just make sure to clean the diffuser regularly to keep it working at its best.
