    Hi to all.
I did'n know where to post it:
For those who might be interested, I coded a small program for the management of the aquarium ... at the moment is only in (poor) English and only runs on Linux ...

You can get on sourceforge: Nyagua -home-

    suggestions and collaborations are welcome.

I hope could be useful to someone.

    Hi.
You nedd a lot of tweaking to make it run under windows but it can: tcl/tk is a portable language...

In future I hope I'll build up a win release...

    Notes from release:
    - It's useful to store data about measures in aquariums and get graphs
    - It's possible to store expenses data and get a report with
    yearly/monthly/daily costs
    - It reports the compatibility between fishes, plants in the db and
    measures you store
    - It's possible to get some simple calculations (more will be added
    in future :) )
    - It can import fishbase.org xml data in fishes table and your own
    pictures can be added.

I build this program for my daily use... nothing you can't do by hand...but I think it can be useful for some other people. :)

It's for free and no fee or cost is due to me (thanks are welcome :) ).

    New features:

    • You can manage more than one aquarium data
    • Plotting settings can be saved directly from plotting window
    • Better import parser for fishbase.org's xml files
    • Tested on Linux and Windows (plotting functions don't run on Windows).

    Hello Juri
The program run on Linux and Windows and is used from some people on Mac (I don't know if everything run on Mac but I think only plot function can have issues).
I've seen many downloads from Mac users but no feedback (this could be a good thins as much as bad :) )

If You can help me with translation please contact me with a pm.
It's matter to translate a couple of pages of sentences ad to send them back to me...

Any one that can help (with graphic or translations) is welcome :)

    Thanks EFM.
I'll be happy to receive a feedback of Your Mac test.
By now I want to take a break in Nyagua developing but I'll like to have help when I'll restart. If You can please contact me at rudi.giacomini(at)inwind.it so I'll keep your e-mail address in developers list.

    Thanks.

hey, I just downloaded myself a copy, Its great to find people creating software for the linux community, just brings us a little further away from windows, anyways, I thought I would post a comment or suggestion here before I forgot :)

So I fired up the software (I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit) and well it works great though I do have to suggest maybe programming in some automation. Under the aquarium tab it would be nice to input your basic aquarium dimensions and have it punch out the volume. Also, I noticed you have a minor programming bug in the co2 calculator, It seems that the software cant decipher the difference between degrees and ppm for KH and calculates the co2 using the degrees calculation even when the ppm radio button is selected.

I am not sure if you have looked at AquariumLab or not (they offer a 30 day trial) but if you havent, you could get some ideas from them that you may or may not like to incorporate into your application.

but all round good looking software, will take some time to totaly figure it out :)

Before anithing thanks for your comments on my sw. Any feedback is welcome :)

The problem in automating calculations is the need to use a fixed unit.
If I want to express the volume of water in liters and the lenghts are in cm I can do lxhxdx1000 but if i want gals instead liters 1000 is not a valid multiplier. Less automation give more freedom to user to choose in their mind any unit they prefer (else those I don't know). If anyone can solve this I'll be happy to implement it :)

Thank for this reporting I'm now working on next 1.3 version so I'll fix it in new version (well you can download it from cvs if you really need it now and don't want to wait: some things are already fixed).

I've take a look at many programs before starting Nyagua. I can't remember at now if AquariumLab was one of this but instead to look at them I prefer to ask people what they like to have in next version....

    Thanks again.

I would love to help you with programming, but I cant program java, as for the formula for calculating galons, I used to know it, but at the moment I dont recall it, I will have to do some searching to find it again.

    Formula will be appreciated :).
I don't need a loot of help for programming.... but anyone can help me with suggestions, tests, translations, documents and graphics. So your help can be useful also if you express it in math formula...

Thanks again to you and to everyone that will contribute.

P.S. If you like to have you name in credit list for your suggestion please send me a p.m. writing the name (or nickname) You want to publish and if you like that your mail will be inserted in credits or not.

ok so I cant seem to find the long formula I used to know but here is the short one:

    Length x Width x Height / 231 = Gallons

each of the 3 inputs is in inches.

I am not sure the exact forumula for calculating co2 from kH(ppm) but the formula for calculating dkH from kH(ppm) is:

    dkH = 0.056 x kH(ppm)

    Thanks.
The formula for co2-KH conversion is right (it's the same I used). The problem was that translation introduced a bug so the radio button was not operating. I fixed it and uploaded the source code in svn... I'm not sure to publish this binary because I'm going to publish next version so in a couple of weeks (I hope) it'll be possible to have new version.

The volume formula don't solve the problem:
    Length x Width x Height (in) / 231 = Gallons
    Length x Width x Height (cm) x 1000 = liters
But whar if LxWxH was in cm and I want volume in Gallons?? Simple You can say: it's necessary to introduce a choose for units for user and take care of all conversion...
Well but I don't know if in some countries others units are used for lenghts and volume so I can't prepare all formula. This is an international forum so anyone can help me to solve the problem.

When I've faced this problem for first time I've simply solved it not using units near fields: Anyone can in his/her head to figure his own units and calculate the volume (or any other thing) with any formula used in his/her country.

Let me know Your opinion about all this... your feedback is precious for me.
    Thanks again for your help.
