    AQUARIOSCAPING
    Planted Tank Contest 2012

After bringing to Portugal some of the biggest names in the fantastic art of planted tanks, like Takashi Amano, Oliver Knott, Tom Barr and Jordi Pelegrí, and after we had the good fortune to see several workshops of the great national aquascaping master who's also a great international reference, Filipe Oliveira (FAAO), we've decided to take another step in spreading the art of aquascaping in Portugal.

We are hosting a competition for planted tanks (aquascaping) during the year 2012, which we named AQUARIOSCAPING.

It's a photo contest based on international competitions such as ADA, AGA, etc.

Your participation in this project is critical to its success, being the hole purpose of it to promote planted tanks and, if possible, to continue this compromise in future years.
Since we want to have a good competition between many high quality tanks, we've decided to offer you prizes that can generate interest and motivate as many people as possible to participate, including:

    Prizes:
    1st place - 500€;
    2nd place - 300€;
    3rd place - 200€;

Since we have cash prizes of considerable value, we also thought that the judging should be done by people with recognized high degree of knowledge in this field. So we've made several contacts to people world renowned, who have agreed to participate in this initiative. Soon, we will make known the names chosen for this task.

But a true contest must have a people's award. That'll also happen in "AQUARIOSCAPING". We'll also make a lot of noise on the social networks and of course, on our online board, for people to vote on their favourite aquarium. There wont be any money award in this 'people's choice award'.

The participation in this contest is not limited to our registeres users. Anyone can participate. As long as they send the pictures of their aquarium within the rules, it will be accepted.

    Rules:
    - The theme is planted tanks only.
    - Shops can participate with pictures of their aquariums (shop exibition aquariums can only participate on the shop's behalf)
    - The file format/extension must be jpeg, jpg or png.
    - You can (and you should) send light/colour ajusted photos but it has to be accompanied by it's original (for us to know what ajustments there were to the photo)
    - You must also send a picture with the participant and aquarium in the same photo.
    - With each photo you must send: Full name, username (if you are a member of our online board) and the aquarium's setup.
    - The photos must be sent to aquarioscaping@gmail.com untill 04-11-2012 11h59pm (Lisbon Time » "CET-01:00")
    - By participatind, you are accepting to concede the photo's rights to the online board Aquariofilia.net

The Aquarium Setup information you must send are as follows:
    Size (LxWxH in metric system):
    Lighting:
    Other Equipments:
    Aquarium name:
    Flora:
    Fauna:
    Type of gravel:
    decorative material:

Participation is available from 2012-05-15 until 2012-11-04 (yyyy-mm-dd). You can send pictures of the evolution of the aquarium, allways followed with your name and aquarium name.

The winner's anouncement will be made on december 10th, 2012.

    Good Luck!

Thank you all from our managemente team.
    Aquariofilia.net

PS - The awards and/or conditions of the contest may change during this time. These changes will be reflected here and will only be done whenever it will improve the conditions and allways to benefit the participants.

Few Questions: I have never entered any contest before only kept planted tank as a hobby so would like to know rules specific to the pictures, like how many snaps need to be send(apart from the details that have been mentioned in the main post)? do they require watermark of names? Is there any size limit of the picture? and on what all basis the point grading is done?

    Hello Abhradip Choudhuri

From rules you must send one (1) photo of layout (only tank) and one (1) other from you beside him.

Then you can send how many photos you want. ;)

Without watermark, the size to send to mail its the limit, best quality better to grading....

From point grading I post soon. For now I can tell we have 5 jurys.

    Best Regards

    hi Greg,

Was that question for me? if yes, I can give the plant names and hardscape picture and final pictures, but the tank in question has been done just a week back so don't have a complete mature picture yet. Plus I did not get the last question meaning - "that with us"

"You must also send a picture with the participant and aquarium in the same photo."

This specific rule will cut lose a lot of potential aquascapes from entering. Most people including my self do not have the habbit to show them selfes with their aquariums.

I have few good aquascapes and not one can enter, because I do not have that kind of picture.

I second that... Why you nee to see a person standing next to a tank?

    I would not enter. :)

To prove it's real? I think it's a good rule, it removes the whole does it really look like that aspect if there's someone there with the tank in it's day to day setting.

So now we are going to police aquascapers or what? How about inviting for judges people that are competent enough to recognize from the picture if aquascape is real or not.
Also publishing pictures of people on the internet this days have a lot of spam issues and crookery problems as well.

ahhaha, to prove it is real? You do know that with photoshop I can put Elvis and the Dalai Lama next to a scape, right?

You could what I mean is it removes the black framework a million lights thing from the whole thing makes it about a aquascaping competition rather than a photograph competition. I don't like competitions, never have, never will.

when we first held our local planted tank competition we were ask to send one clean pic as entry and one pic with the
owner standing beside his entry tank with a cardboard where the handle name of every participant
was written as proof.............that the entry tank was his/her and is still existing at the time of photo shoot.

in our case PS is not an issue for most of us, say 95% do not know how to PS except for minor photo enhancement
which is allowable also to ROAPLC.

for me, there is no issue standing beside my entry tank......the problem is all of my 3 layout already submitted to the contest,
and that my tank look almost empty and is nearing reset to prepare for next year competition.

if i can rush one scape, anyway, still 6 months more to go, i am willing to paste my face near the glass tank.....
mind you i am not as handsome as juris:)

Such picture will proove nothing other than the guy on the picture was there when the picture was taken. How can you tell from any picture if the person on it was the same that made the aquascape???

If the tank did not exsist at the time of photo shot then what that picture would be about? That does not make much sense.

And as Luis said people can easily add anything on any picture with any pc software this days.

My point here is simple. I have few nice aquascapes that I would love to submit to this and other contests, but I hate to post my self upon this kind of demand.
If the contest commitee would not trust the contestants they should reconsider the whole endevor on the first place.
All this contest events should be joy not police crap.

hi georgi,.....what i am citing was the contest held locally and the rules somewhat similar to acuarioscaping.

since this is a local forum, the local contest committee is aware that the members and participants are all Filipinos[as far as i know, we have no foreign member/s compared to ASW, the members came from different parts of the world],and that we have known each other especially those members who lives in the City of Manila. in fact, some members occasionally gather when we want to have "get together". despite of this camaraderie, maybe the local committee want to make sure that the clean photo entry submitted was not copied from the net. so it make sense.

but for acuarioscaping contest...well that's their problem to detect if the entry photo submitted is real or not.
well. standing and showing my face near the glass tank is no problem for me. the only issue for me is, what if the
interested paticipant/s did not retain the original image after adjusting the brightness, etc., etc.???? as stated in the rules, so in that rule alone, i think you have to submit 3 images. [1] the original, [2] with adjustment [3] scaper with a smile, standing near the scape tank.:whistle:
