I would remove all the "Live bearers" do 2 x 30% water changes and increase your filtration.

Clean the filter at least monthly.

What are you feeding, quantity and how often.

    Hi keithgh,
    I need some professional advice...
    1. Using white Brownish sand insted of quartz gravel will suffer less greener frome the light?
    2. I see many aquascapes with kind of white brownish sand. Do this kind of sand is basis for a anaerobic ground problem?
    3. Can I take my quartz gravel to the back (I want to give some heights in the back and use the gravel I allready have) and cover it with plants gravel like Amazonia or similar gravel? Do the ground will suffer from bed bacteria or it will be fine?

To start off with I am not a "Professional" just a member doing my best to help other members.

Its no secret that white Substrate and Algae seem to go together unless regularly cleaned/deep vacuumed.

My tank was so heavily planted it was impossible to clean the substrate (it was 1-3mm natural river stones) the plants lived off every thing that was in the gravel.
Possibly what helped my Substrate was I was running a UGF system as well as the external Eheim canister.

If you want to add extra height make sure you do several deep vacuums and, their should not be any problems.

If you have the ADA substrate it does not like to be disturbed too much.

You can wave the vac over the substrate to lift all the surface gunk off.

The other method is to completely cover the substrate with plants.

The first thing you must do is establish what the Algae is then remedy the cause not just add ??? to remove the Algae

    http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_freshwater_algae.php

A full water test of tank and supply.

My suggestion is to list every ingredient you are adding fertilizers etc to your tank.

Full inhabitants list and feeding, times per day and quantity used .

Water changes percentages and how often.

Filter type and cleaning how often.

    Lighting type and hours on.

Natural lighting is it in direct light not just room lighting.

Somewhere in there is the problem but which one/s

    Hi Keithgh,

Sorry for a bit out off topic in this thread.

For living stock, does aqadvisor.com only take fishes to calculate aquascape status? What about plants inside the aquascape? I can't find plants parameter in aqadvisor.com fields (see picture below).

They do not have a plant list, only live stock.
