    Hi,

Two weeks ago I took to setting up my tank as a start to my new aquascaping adventure. I added some Dwarf Hairgrass, this is the only flora I have in my tank at the moment. Lo and behold the day after I added the hairgrass I found a long (About 7 inches) clear, slimey worm like "creature" in my tank. It seemed to be sticking to the side of the glass. I took it in to my local aquarist and the guy there hasnt ever seen anything like it before. The only thing I can think of is that my tank got more light than it was used to as I put in a new style light (18w) and kept it on throughout the day. I then decided to redo my entire tank from scratch. I emptied and cleaned it out, put in new substrate, fertilizer, pump etc, everything in the tank is new, apart from the hairgrass. Now (2 days later) I have similar beings in my tank, the only difference is these are red. It is not fish waste and they dont seem to be alive as such. The platy fish that I have are nibbling on it and dont seem too concerned by it. I would like to know if anyone else has come across these things before in their tanks and how you dealt with them.

Attached are pics of whats left of the red one and a new clear one.

    Many thanks
    Mojo

Indeed. I will just keep an eye on it. I've been doing this all of 2 weeks so still have heaps to learn....the more I read on here the more I realise how little I know :) Next step, CO2! ...I expect the tricky part will be buying something without getting too much :talkalot:from the missus.

I hear you on that..always clearing things through the mrs. the learning never stops. I've been at it nearly a year and still don't have things figured out. I'm sure you will hear the same thing from many who have been doing it for a lot longer.

No, it doent move on its own. I haven't got a clue what it is but it doesnt seem to be doing any harm so I just take it out whenever it shows up. I'm sure there is a fish somewhere that will snack on it..once I figure out what it is :)

Reminds me of[FONT=URW Gothic L, sans-serif] OoglyBoogly's tank, he puts black worms in his tank for the fish to eat. Perhaps it hijacked in your substrate. What is your substrate? If the fish are eating it I wouldn't worry about it.

Thats the confusing bit. I gave them some frozen bloodworm a couple of weeks ago, but since then I have redone my entire tank. New substrate, gravel etc etc. Only thing that I transferred from my old tank is the hairgrass I have (3 bunches). Another thing is that these dont actually seem to be alive. I would expect a worm to crawl along the bottom or glass or something. These just go where the current sends them.
