Its one of those things "It works in my tanks" but that does not mean it will in every ones tank.

When I was into the Orchids in a big way Foliar feeding (as required) was the way to go, every day would be too much some weekly and others monthly.

    Yikes!

Had all this grow during the week...

So I did a water change, got all I could off then did a peroxide treatment.

I've gone back to fertilising daily.

The peroxide seems to have worked ok. The algae isn't brown anymore so I assume it is dead.

The light and CO2 hasn't changed. I took all these plants from another tank with just gravel where they were growing well with the exact same filter, lights and CO2. So really the only difference is the soil. The tank is also 1/3 larger.

Ah, did some reading. Is it fillament diatoms? Apparently they are caused by high silicates and there's nothing much I can do except wait it out. Is that correct?

Could it be in the rocks?

Most certainly, there is quarts running through it.

No snails in there. (maybe one or two I can't see but none to speak of). Why do you ask?
