The Purigen is a resin. It attracts organic waste in other words ammonia. It does not attract inorganic waste i.e. Potassium Nitrate.

As we know that ammonia triggers algae it is an awesome product for permanent use in the planted tank. It means we remove the trigger and replace it with the Pot Nitrate.

You can recharge it 8 times so no need to bin it after the second charge. Also you don't need to waste money on buffers to return its Ph. Just soak it in household vinegar for 24 hours and then rinse before returning it to the tank.

I use carbon and Purigen inside my filter permantly. Can't see a problem of either removing ferts. Both also help keep crystal clear water as well.

Drew - that is an awesome looking scape. I love wood when it gets dark like that. gives a speciall 'haunting' appearance to the tank ;)

looking really good and a nice bit of growth there. Ive got a Dazs beetle couter too, cool little things! One question, how come you have two co2 diffusers in there?

The larger one is the c02 diffuser.. the smaller one is the 02 diffuser..

ADA Beetle 30 o Diffuser AIR..

the ceramic plate is coarser and it allows our everyday air pumps to pump air trough it.. producing finer air bubbles( though this could be done with wood air stone lol)

I add the 02 at night to aid the bacteria colony.. and also to maintain the pH levels.. ( correct me if I'm wrong)

it is possible to have an O2 & CO2 enriched tank at the same time. Just because you add CO2 doesnt mean it displaces O2 ;)
there is no need for it really, and again, O2 does nothing to aid pH levels. The reason pH drops is because of the carbonic acid produced when CO2 is injected, O2 cant counter-act this.

That's a well made point Aaron.
Do you happen to know if surface agitation/disturbance will drive off CO2, if it is already in solution as Carbonic acid.

    Cheers

That Black Background took out the back ground plant color very well. But will love to see a dark gray background instead of old black.

    @ aaron,
good point there. Thanks for the input! Now I know.. Must be a habit from my manual regulator days where I run the c02 24/7.. and to run the 02 at night to provide more surface agitation for the fish to stay alive!( and away from c02 poisoning lol.)

    @ James,
I'm tagging along with this one.. How effective does surface movement/agitation remove c02 from the water column? ( Is this right? lol)

    @ Tirtha
I am looking for a grey with a tinch of blue .. Not easy to find such colours at this part of the world.. and Thanks alot for reading! ( and those kind comments)
