I will have to shut down the filter and take out one of the containers that holds the sponge.

Yep that's the one, sorry I didn't had time to get the compartment out and take a picture of it.
It has 2 encased compartments in which the sponges are placed.

It looks like a canister that clips onto a tank not like the traditional HOB filter.

I've done a new full water parameters reading, it shows as follows:

    pH : 7,5 - 8,0 mg/l
NH4: <0,05 mg/l ( this is the minimum reading on the color chart )
    NO2: <0,05 mg/l ( dropped from 0,1 - the value from yesterday )
NO3: <10 mg/l ( increased from 1 mg/l - value from 18 Nov. which is normal taking into consideration that the nitrite level is going down )

Well I can't argue with you :), I asked for a Hang on Filter and they gave me this :), I't easy to clean because you take out the compartments soak them in water and put them back :).

I guess so, that's why I really like it, and also it keeps the water crystal clear.

If I am not mistaken that filter can be used for a tank up to 200 lt.

then if your parameter are much better , take out some floating plant and leave three or four , not much , as they limit light .
this filter are great for filtration , more than flow ...

Is the filter medium in the white basket?

Hard to see is there one or two baskets.

Looks like filter wool would work very well in those baskets.

Yep, the sponges are in those baskets, and there are 2 baskets.

What is the advantage of using filter wool ?
