For a little while now, me and a few friends have been working together on the development of a new project, one that emphasizes the spread of aquascaping as an art. Specifically the facet of the Minimalist Aquascape, meaning the adherence to the less is more philosophy of design. Thus far the road of development for this endeavor has been all encompassing in our outlook, going so far as designing our current apartments months ahead of time around the emphasis of the application of this design theory in an attempt to showcase the aquarium as a living and evolving facet of room decor and to further it's rightful recognition as an art.

    The Name: Iwagumi^3 (Iwagumi Cubed)

The Goal: To foster and expand the Iwagumi and Minimalist movements in aquarium design.

The Medium: Fully comprehensive content provision that is wholly unique and never before seen to such scale in English via online and later, printed medium.

The Release: Tentative launch for iwagumicubed.com is scheduled for February 2010.

The Content: On release there will be no less than 20 unique articles, accompanied by photographs and possibly video detailing Iwagumi and Minimalist Aquascaping.

Due to such high popularity with our demographic tests with our 2009 beta concept booklet, we have decided to release it to the public for you to enjoy in it's original form, with the original photographs. Because the community is so important to us, we cherish any and all feedback and voluntary involvement.

Here's to hoping 2010 is a big year.

    Respectfully,

    -F Wazeter

Respect for doing this. Philosophical approch to aquascaping and reconizing aquascaping as an artform is often overlooked and overcome by the basical, practical things.

But by giving the practical infomation via articles, photos and videos it becomes easier to understand what to focus on.

Thanks for the concept booklet - very inspiring for me.

I appreciate your words, and I'm glad that our humble work serves as an inspiration.

We feel that there is a gap between theory (or lack there of) and practice, and one of our goals is to shorten that gap by showing theory in action.

This is exactly the type of information i have been hoping to find in some of the books i have purchased. I have only started working on my first tank and find that finding some of the essential information and explanations are extremely hard to find or scattered. Being in Canada and only just starting to pursue aquascaping I don’t know that I could be of much help but I have just finished my honors marketing degree so if there is any insight that I could help with I would welcome the opportunity. By the looks of the layout of the booklet it looks like you have business background as well and i love that you are promoting your mission statement and hopefully avoiding a myopic trap. The only bit of criticism coming from my teachings is that you should never limit the boundaries of your business in the mission statement. The only word in that mission statement that I would consider changing if it were mine would be at the end “new age in American aquarium design". Although this goes into detail about the current goals and demographics identified by Iwagumi^3 you may want to reward in the future to ensure that your not for profit will grow to encompass an international audience outside of America or America's. This can be seen in so far in this post with the diverse backgrounds of people already commenting on the booklet.

Thanks for your words of support, it certainly is not an easy project to undertake to the scope in which we hope to achieve. Rest assured we have been working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and timely release. If you wish to donate pictures of aquascapes you've made that follow minimalism, we'd be happy to review them.

What part of Canada do you live in?

I hope that the sample articles included in the concept booklet have been of some help to you then. That is just a small taste of the written content we have available right now on the subject matter ready for release.

It is certainly not our goal to draw any national boundaries on our mission, but rather that the American aquascaping scene in general seems to be lagging behind the rest of the world (most notably Asia) by quite a bit in terms of quantity and quality. So in all honesty it seems like we are playing the catch up game. However, I do see your point in the small ambiguity of that particular sentance and I thank you for your input on the subject.

I'd be happy to talk shop with you via pm's if you'd like, I welcome this kind of conversation and am open to hearing what you've got to say in detail.

I am in southern Ontario in the Niagara Region 1 hour North from Buffalo NY, and an hour south of Toronto. Like I said before i was uncertain on the goals or targets of the company but it was an extremely strong mission statement. The aquarium I am in the process of designing will be a Iwagumi setup so this material has been exceptional. Like I said before this will be my first tank so the amount of content I would be able to share regarding the artform would be minimal, however any consulting or or business related questions you might desire would be more than welcome and would give me an opportunity to use my knowledge and give back to this community which has been extremely valuable to my start and growing intrest.

    Best Regards

It's part of my philosophy to share relevant work as it is progressing with the community, and so I took some practice photo shoots a little while ago for the future on angles for the tank setups and layouts, and figured I would share some of them here. Bear in mind these are still work in progresses (as you will see, there's still some growing to do), but I thought you all might enjoy them for what they are.

Thank you for the compliment Jur4ik. I anticipate they will be even better when you can notice that there is actually hair grass in the small tank up front.

As a side note, anyone who wishes to support or help out Iwagumi^3, we have prepared a forum signature for supporters:

Code (delete asterisks for code to be enabled) :

    [*URL="http://iwagumicubed.com/iwagumi3.pdf"][*IMG]http://iwagumicubed.com/support.jpg[/IMG*][/URL*]

    or alternatively, the html code:

    <a href="http://iwagumicubed.com/iwagumi3.pdf">
    <img src="http://iwagumicubed.com/support.jpg"></a>

Spreading the word through the community is the most important task we have at the moment, and the best way to do that is the community members themselves helping in the endeavor.

Those that show their support by displaying this banner in their signature will be entered in an inaugural raffle in which we will give away a new ADA brand Mini-S aquarium (why a Mini-S? Because it was the first aquarium I aquascaped in and is the same tank you see depicted in the front of the pictures) that will take place upon release of the website. In order to be eligible you must both display the banner in your signature at least until release and either pm or email me at the email address listed in the Concept Booklet, or post in this thread to notify me of your participation. A list of those who qualify to enter will be maintained in this thread.

In the event of a winner outside the continental United States or Canada you will have to pay shipping

Given the swift addition of a few more entries I added an update. Aside from the bigger announcement that we're preparing to make, a smaller one includes our work to rebrand the Iwagumi^3 logo to reflect the directions we are taking in 2010 (we will be updating the signatures from the master list when the logo rebranding process is complete), here is a preview of the direction where that is going:

    Beta Logo Black:

    Beta Logo White:

In phase 2, when the new logo is completed, supporters will have the option of using either a black themed banner/signature or the standard white themed one to better fit in with their websites, blogs, or personal preferences. For those of you running websites that wish to place an advertisement for Iwagumi Cubed up we can work with you to format our designs to fit in with your webpage.

As part of the phase 2 process, we will be putting out some Iwagumi Cubed t-shirts that follow in accordance with the new logo and following the same theme as the banner as our first fundraising endeavor. We would be happy to accept pre-orders as singles or in bulk for distribution. When this gets closer to being produced we will have an accurate price quote and discount for pre-orders available. All proceeds from these will be going directly to funding the development of more content and the 2010 concept booklet for print (essentially, the purchase of a t-shirt is another direct method to contribute to the cause). To express interest in pre-ordering a shirt you can contact me via pm, email or in this thread and we will begin tallies for the first batch.

olitango, I'm glad you've enjoyed what you've seen so far, and I hope we can continue to make new announcements that will keep you coming back.

elmagico82, I responded to your pm and emailed you the requested information for translating into italian. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing your Iwagumi progress for IAPLC 2010. Those are some good rocks you've got there.

Riverboa, the tank in mention was one of our major design concepts for 2009, and as such it will be figured prominantly on the webpage! I've got a collection of a few photographs for it for the website's release that I think you'll enjoy.

Enrico Serena, Resizing to fit your needs is perfectly okay with us, and i'm glad to see another blog help support us, I enjoyed reading through your blog as best as google could translate it into english. If you need anything else from I^3 let me know and i'll happily provide it.

    Thanks for your interest everyone,

    -Frank Wazeter
