What LED lights are recommended?

Hi everyone,

I see there is a lot of talk about temperatures and colours of lights but I’m curious to know that led’s people would recommend?

I currently run 2 x 80cm fluval aquasky over my 130l planted aquarium.

I feel they are pretty good and have some nice features but may not be best for a planted aquarium? Anyone else use them?

Been looking for a twinstar 900 but can’t find anywhere that sells them (uk).

Does anyone else have any recommendations?

Many thanks in advance

My suggestion would be Google and certainly not E/Bay

Spent a bit of time googling but found a lot of different recommendations and nothing definitive. Kesil offer some nice kit but at a price. There are lots of inexpensive options on google that claim to be ‘full spectrum’ but I have no way of telling how good the led chips are? Wasted money before and had to buy better so I’m trying to get something that’s been recommended but won’t be massively expensive like the kesil’s.
My fluval aquasky’s are great but I’ve had no experience of growing plants with them till now. Has anyone used them for a planted tank as I have a feeling they may not be powerful enough? Local fish shop says they are perfect but to be fair they don’t offer an alternative so I guess they would say that?!

Hi Keeponscaping,

I have had positive experiences with Finnex fixtures - the Ray 2 and the planted plus 24/7. The Ray 2 is just white 7000K leds which gives the scape a colder feel, and the lights are very strong and not dimmable so I've had to use several layers of window screening to diffuse the lighting, but it grows plants very well, as does the planted plus 24/7, which you can program the rgb colors individually to change the hue of light as well as the intensity of the white leds which makes light management very easy for a pretty decent price. I can't really give any other recommendations on any other fixtures as I haven't tried many, but I hope this helps!

Never having used LEDs members on here have mentioned chihiros as a cheaper but good plant light A series. Fluval have a freshwater plant light in their range On a really careful budget and with DIY skills LED floodlights?

Chihiros RGB is a very good light, plenty of power, it will bring out more colors then the A series but if your on a budget A series is best. If I were you looking for a good light, I'd go with the RGB. It will be a little more expensive then the A series, but better colors and look in general.
