    Hair algae issues!

That sounds like a good idea marcel, I'm just not sure what I'm looking for with a dimmer? I think I have the balance about right now. Just a matter of timing, I also have a timer. That's how thins are currently looking, I'm still not happy with the hard scape but the plants are growing...

    My Tank setup

Thanks for the info. It was just a one off. The rest seem fine. Although no sign of any breeding, anything I can do to help make it better for them? I'm still struggling on the algae side, I cut out ferts for a week. Cut down lighting as well. The hair algae boomed again. I've taken the...

    My Tank setup

Wow quick reply! Thanks, there's deffinately no nitrites or ammonia I've checked multiple times. And I'm assuming nitrates are from fertilisers? A she? How can you tell? I have some really red ones and some pale ones. I assumed red meant male? Haha. These are the first shrimp I've had so I...

    My Tank setup

Hey, I've been doing alright so far. I did a 50% change yesterday and come home from work today one of the RCS is swimming erratically. Upside down. I've put it in a tub to see closer. Some scales seem to be falling off? I'm not really sure He's constantly swimming with his back legs but...

how clean algae and snail for my " Neverland "

Hi, I found both sucking up the algae during water changes and covering the tank for a few days did the trick, other than that shrimp 'should' take care of the rest from there? Amazing setup though, I'm jealous

    My Tank setup

I had some success on the arduino side of things! Figured out the wiring and got a simple bit of code to drop the brightness down. Time to get learning more!

    My Tank setup

I've been tinkering with an arduino to make it dimmer but that's taking time. I can desolder a few LEDs? Atm it is 10*3w LEDs I did 30w as my CFL were 2*15w but I guess leds are brighter? Once the timer gets here I'll put it to 7hours a day I looked into that but 1.i don't have the space 2...

    My Tank setup

Very true, I'm thinking the cause is lighting mainly. Well lack of co2, I have strong lighting and fertilisers. But without co2 all the ferts are getting eaten by algae? I'm getting a timer clock to set lighting to about 7-8hours a day (would this be too much/too little?) Then adding co2...

    My Tank setup

Just a quick update, and my fight against the algae. Boiled the wood and rock. Te wood is looking better than ever now! My aim today is scrub the side/back properly Apart from that I'm on a no lights week to try kill off the remaining algae. Ordered some liquid co2 The shrimp are amusing to...

    Hair algae issues!

Thanks for the advice. Just a quick question you mention half life, if I remember right from my physics lessons. Half-life is associated with radioactive material? Dies that mean this is too? Thanks

    Hair algae issues!

All the plants have new growth. They keep popping up new stems etc. my crypts are insane at multiplying I could split them really often if I had somewhere to put them all haha I went for the carbon that I linked. Contacted the seller who confirmed it contains glutaraldehyde, so I will have 2...

    Hair algae issues!

Dropped water to 25% gave everything a good scrub. Boiled the wood and rock. Removed as much algae as I could get (there's a bit at the back and side I could we get without stressing the fish and shrimp) I've put a thick towel over the tank now. Will keep it in darkness this week and do water...

    Hair algae issues!

I came across this http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111623644329 If I dosed 2ml/day it would last 500 day per bottle.. Just unsure whether it can be trusted. Thanks

    Hair algae issues!

Thanks, so cutting down light intensity or length it is on would be more effective? Also I researched glutaraldehyde. And from what I've read I'm not sure I want that (it is toxic?) Is there any other carbon sources I can use? Thanks

    Hair algae issues!

Thanks. Keith, will the lack of light cause the plants any issues? Also what amount of light would be recommended? I might just desolder a few of the LEDs make it 18w or something? Solcielo, are liquid co2 worth it? Or is there a decent budget co2 setup worth it for a tank this small? Thanks

    Hair algae issues!

So I've been away from home for a week. And returned to this I'm assuming the cause was too much light? I left strict instructions to allow 6-8 hour light (my LEDs are very bright) and feed every other day. Firstly what us the best way to remove hair algae from between plants without...

No worries. If you don't mind waiting. Theyre even cheaper here but 20/4/15 until stocked if I read it right http://m.rs-online.com/h5/mobile/uk/catalog?url=%2Fweb%2Fp%2Fprocessor-microcontroller-development-kits%2F8326274%2F
