Hi all. The water in my 20 gallon is still not clear. It's been set up since 4/27. I juat changed the filter pads in my Eheim canister, and added a bag of black diamond carbon. Any other ideas what to try to clear it up? Substrate is ADA Amazonia. 50% water change performed once a week. Thanks

I think I am almost there, but sure they are probably still trying to establish themselves. I hadn't really thought about it too much, and then someone on a forum in malaysia pointed it out. I thought, you are right. If I look from one side through to the other I see it the most. Not nice and crystal clear like my nanos. I wonder if it could just still be from the amazonia, or maybe that in combination with the manzanita? The water does have a tannin to it when I change it, but I have had tannins in tanks and the water is still clear..it's just amber colored. He told me to use bamboo charcoal, then follow with beneficial bacteria. I am not familiar with bamboo charcoal, and wonder if it would make a difference compared to regular activated carbon?

Carole, are you still having trouble with cloudy water? If it's particles, I've heard good things about Seachem Clarity. It only clumps particles together so that they can be caught by the filter media... I haven't used it myself, so you'd be a guinea pig, though!

My tank with Amazonia was crystal clear due to large water changes up front and carefully adding water back in. After I re-introduced my loaches, the water has been cloudy as they constantly dig around looking for snails. I'm hoping it will all settle or get caught in the filter eventually.

Hello guys. I face the same problem with my 6 feet planted tank and my 3 feet planted ram tank.
I got a feeling it has very very much got to do with the fauna that is staying in the tank. I have not solved the problem until today. My 6 feeter is even cloudier than your tank. |

Try Purigen, this work for me.
Purigen™ is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all others by over 500%. Purigen™ controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds. Purigen’s™ impact on trace elements is minimal. It significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. Purigen™ darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily renewed by treating with bleach. Purigen™ is designed for both marine and freshwater use. This product is sold by volume. Cited weight is minimal weight.

Thanks for the purigen recommendation, it has worked really really well for my tank. It turned my tank's water clear and it itself became dark brown in just 2 days.
Time to bleech. I have ADA superge with me. Can I use that? What is the correct method to do it, I am new in this. Advice much appreciated. |
