I don't know if any of you recall the problem I had with the Eco-Complete I had bought:
Using Activated carbon as substrate additive? But the rep from CaribSea, Jud McCracken, really came through for me.. It's here, all 5 bags, fine-grained,with nary a leak, and black as Saskatchewan topsoil! I didn't even have to return the bad stuff to the store.. He shipped me the good stuff all the way from head office in Ft. Pierce, Florida to Mackenzie, BC, Canada! (a mere 4,500 kilometers or 2,800 miles, as the crow flies) So here's what it's supposed to look like, compared to what it's NOT.. So if you've bought some recently, or are going to, have a look.. If you need to get replacement bags, call 1-888-461-1113 and ask for Jud. ![]() |

What a sharp difference between the good stuff (left) and bad stuff (right).
Caribsea is a great company. They replaced several bags of Eco Complete a few years ago (due to bad batch (phosphate overload), no charge. It often seems like their mining source changes alot, or there are at times quality control issues i.e. grains wrong color, grains to small, grains to large, etc. It's cool to hear they went over and beyond to ship to Canada. You probably can keep the old stuff and use it in a side tank too! -John N.

Couldn't get a very good picture of how fine-grained the "good" Eco-complete is, as like I said, there are no leaks whatsoever so the air bubbles make it almost impossible.. But you get the idea, hopefully (I won't be breaking it out for another 2 months, till I get back from my trip to Europe).

You haven't used the bags?
Do you have the receipt? Doesn't hurt to call, in any case.. But a photo-copy of the receipt and a photo of the bags is what fast-tracked me.. Last edited by dougz; 06-04-2008 at 11:43 PM. |

I wondered about that - I figured they just changed their formula and ruined their product... good to know that was just a crap batch. I have switched to AS and ASII for all of my tanks, but I quite liked my Eco Complete...
