Default Taiwanese Style Aquascapes

Taiwanese Style

This style is another style that has been overshadowed and lost over the years. The Taiwanese style draws from Dutch Gardens, Zen Gardens and Amano's Nature Style to create aquascapes with high terraces and depth. Besides the terracing, small figurines, structures or other objects placed in the aquascape are also telling of when this style is employed. The overall goal is to create a living landscape.

Here's an example from the ADA 2001 competition

Please discuss the techniques involved in creating a Taiwanese Aquascape, and feel free to share your own Taiwanese Style aquariums. (Click here to discover other aquascaping styles).

It's almost hard to find the figurine in that scape, but when you do it's a pleasant surprise. There's even a house!

I struggled finding examples of Taiwanese aquascapes. It would be great if anyone could post their examples and give us some more details about this lost aquascaping style.

To me this is very hard to do because everything must be in scale. Very creative and I love to stare at this scape. You will always find something new to gaze and admire.

That is awesome.
Since it is sort of long lost, it almost makes it VERY ORIGINAL which to me makes it very intriguing. and I just love to see new things.
It sure looks HARD as heck and you have to admire the skill and attention to detail and just the overall patients it takes to create something like this.
I would love to see more examples if you are able to find some.

I'm interested too about this aquascaping style. Could anybody tell me who realized this scape?

Hi,

Taiwanese aquascapers are creative, but I don't know if there is any aquascaping referring to Taiwanese style. I was one of the juries for the Taiwanese aquatic plants contest 2007. There was a really weird rule: red plants should occupy more than 20% of the tank area. Probably because Taiwanese or Chinese love the red color.

Here are some of the winners in the contest. http://http://blog.sina.com.tw/palud...entryid=572620 All the tanks were set up 1 month before the contest, and the entries were delivered to the exhibition on the day of the contest. It was not an aquascaping photo competition.

Regards,
Erich

is a really nice aquaspcae by a taiwanese. I see the majority of the plants used in this aquascape are mainly mosses. The growth of the plants look awesome. I'm definitely interested in seeing more aquascapes like this.

Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting scape I like it, too bad some of the plants (Green's one) used in this scape can't be import to Australia.

Hi,

Taiwanese aquatic plants contest 2008 just took place 1 week ago. Here is the link for the best 10 tanks http://blog.sina.com.tw/paludarium/article.php?pbgid=40898&entryid=580471. Again, the red plants should occupy more than 20% of the tank area. Hope you enjoy it, and any comments are welcome.

Regards,
Erich

Hi,

Most Taiwanese aquascapers and hobbyists do not like figures such as houses, bridges, statues etc.. at all. But pictures or tanks with such weird things are attractive to the lay public.

Erich

Understandably we pick up on the differences and thus stereotype.
Despite having IAPLC Grand champions and I lost count how many top ten finishers.

Thanks for posting the links.
