The common method is to use cardboard to divide the areas where you want to place eco complete, and sand. The cardboard keeps it from initially mixing.

I don't have any pictures of how to do this, but I'm sure someone will chime in with some.

look at how it is done in this thread.
About 10 posts down starts to outline the build for this amazing tank. after the rain

Oh yeah, since Eco is WET, you may want to try to find some plastic sheet or something that won't melt and pull apart when it gets wet.

BTW, I have done this method very well with cardboard, but only with Aquasoil which is dry and doesn't mush up the cardboard.

In that thread I pointed you to, YES it did, but that is one of the first times that I saw it done that way.
I have always removed it, and use small rock borders between them.
Like I build up a rock (pebble) wall before putting in the Eco and the sand on the other side. The rock wall can be made to not be seen too much or you can use it to put riccia or moss or anchor java fern or anubias or plant other low growing mid ground plants like Downoi or something in front of them or right behind them so it covers them up in the end.

If you get plastic and get it the way you want it, then you can leave it just fine.
Use rocks to help keep it separate.

You will have to do some cleaning as small particles of Eco WILL get on the sand from time to time.
You can use tweezers to pick it out when there is just a little.
You can use a hose to siphon it off.
The hose is easier to use then a full gravel vac because you can get small pieces out with better accuracy.

Anything in here you don't understand because of english, quote the line to me and I will try to explain it better so you can understand.
