Aquatic Scapers Europe present a new international aquascaping contest.
The Aquatic Scapers Europe - International Aquascaping Contest 2009 is an exclusive freshwater planted aquarium contest with two categories. One category the nano competition, will be for aquariums up to 40 liters and the other competition is designated for all aquariums above that size. We encourage everyone to participate in this contest.

The closing date for this year’s contest (May 01, 2009) is a little bit short noticed and very close to the IAPLC. Therefore the application for the next year’s contest will start at the end of 2009 (around October or November).

Sounds good to me

however....from reading the judging criteria it looks like it is aimed at the nature/Iwagumi style (yet again) rather than all the other styles that can be used!!!

I assume this from the following pointer:
Does this layout contain new and/or inventive aspects?

Is it aimed at tanks with 'waterfalls' and 'lakes' (or whatever is next) in them?

When will there be a competition that judges Jungle/Dutch styles alongside nature/Iwagumi style equally? They all seem to have top 10s that are only of this style.

Special efforts to highlight the beauty of the aquascape with photographic knowledge and skill.
Although there are many aquascapers that are also good photographers and have good equipment this seems to be eliminating a 10 point possiblity for anyone who may have an awesome scape but aren't good at photography nor have access to the equipment. I think good photography already gives an advantage to entries without also being given 'bonus' points for this other skill.

I may be wrong and I will enter seeing as it is free

Tobi - Would be interested in your opinion on my comments as I may be making the wrong assumptions from my interpretation of the guidelines.

Hi,

thanks for the feedback.

@Kristoffer
a pity that you aren't making it to Hannover this year... would be great to meet you again.

@Supercoley
The judging guidelines are not printed in stone . Those are only guidelines . With inventive and creative we meant, that something new was created in an aquascape. We don't focus on "landscapes under water" ... we all love aquariums with plants.

A great Dutsch scape or jungle style aquarium will have his chances too. We do not want to see only asian influenced aquascapes. One of our main goals with this contest is to boost the european aquascaping scene. We all see great potential in the european aquascapers and like to offer them a "contest located in Europe" as their homebase .

The 10 points regarding the photograph will not only be for people with professional equipment. But we would like to see that everyone tries there best at taking the photo. This judging point is mainly for the purpose to reward people who shoot the photo at the right angle and with the proper lightning. Maybe some points will be given for extra crisp photos but those will not distort the whole judgement.

We wish everyone good luck at this contest.

Best Regards
Tobi

Thanks for the reply Tobi

ticked all the boxes there. I was worried that when it said something new it would limit the style of entry and therefore 'box' the competition into and asian theme.

Good to know it isn't and I shall enter with a scape or maybe 2, maybe even asian themed

Wish I had good lighting though to use with my compact camera

Talking

Hi,

@AC
good to hear. .

@Kristoffer
The event will be perhaps in Hamburg (Germany). We have not decided this finally. Stay tuned... in the next weeks we will publish an announcement at our website.
Would be great to see you there. If enough international guests are coming we have to think a little bit about the events/workshops. Then all of those have to be bilingual (or only in English) that everyone understands them .

Best Regards
Tobi

Hi

@elmagico82
Of course you can participate at the contest. A 30 liter tank will be judged in the nano competition.

@Shadow
The contest is open world wide. Only the convention will be located in Europe.

Best Regards
Tobi

Look a bit bad if you won a prize and couldn't be bothered to attend
