Cool let us know how it goes.

BTW, I have those calipers, well probably not the same, mine are inch. Of course they convert to metric, but they are a standard 8" set.

Umm, nope, I don't think I want to see a picture of that... Hehe!

Anyways, it looks like it's gonna be a very nice stand. Are you planning to put doors on it, or is it going to be an open frame? Are you building your stand in your dining room?

No pics of my skinny behind

Diddent pass out - just worked until i was done with the assembly. Took 3 hours straight.

Its an excact ADA copy with a door on hinges. I havent bought the hinges yet, and neet to cut the laminate too. I hope i will be done this weekend.

Yes im building it in my dining/beedroom. When you only have a 2 room apartment, and the kids are sleeping - well theres kinda no choice.

I got more pics i will upload later when i come home from work.

I normally listen to SLAYER in my boxer shorts when doing aquarium stuff . I'm glad I'm not the only fish nerd that likes to rock!?!?! The stand is looking good.

So step by step:

First get the pieces cut (PM me for a list with the dimentions)
Put on foil - i should have used grey, but i got the wrong. Never mind, its real easy to remove and put on.
Drill holes in bottom plate for "wodden nails?" (name? in Denmark there called "dyvler")
Place holemarker in drilled hole for marking the vertical pieces.
Drill holes in vertical pieces.
Glue them on bottom.
Screw vertical pieces together.
Drill holes in top piece - well - same procedure as before.
Screw front, frontstop and toekick on.

For now - done.

Need to be done:

Measure for laminate
Drill holes for hoses and wires.
Grind edges smooth.
Glue on laminate.
Cut out holes in laminate to fit holes in wood.
Drill holes for hinges
Mount hinges
Drill hole for lock
Mount lock.

Yes im mounting a very small discrete lock, since i have 2 very active kids

Very nice job! The "wodden nails" are called dowels here. I'm amazed that you did such an accurate job with just hand tools - drilling holes for dowels and having them match and be perfectly square with the wood is something I never try with hand tools. When I use dowels I drill through both parts at the same time, to be sure the holes line up well. You obviously have made numerous things with wood before.

What color will the laminate be? Is the inside white color from the "foil" you used, and does it have adhesive already on it when you get it? I haven't seen that material available here.

Well - i actually suck in woodwork. But i have years experience with metalwork - hence the ease to use handtools. Dowels = Dyvler. Kinda the same name hehe...
I got some spikes that fit into the dowelholes, so when i place the pieces on spot - they mark up where im gonna drill the matching holes. Its a very nice tool.

The white foil is just the foil i putted on. Its foil used for signs and stuff like that.

The laminate color will be something very close to this:

Just by posting this project you are proving you DO NOT suck at woodwork.
I too am a machinist and work only in metal, but I truly SUCK at woodwork so I no longer attempt it.
Besides, my Father-in-law and Brother-in-law have a woodworking business, so when I need something, that is where I go.

Well - i suppose its quite hard to explain how many pieces of wood that have suffered under my hands

I guess this is the first time I actually have a chance to make something that looks good.

Another question: I am now limited to hand tools also, since I moved away from the house where I had a woodshop. I love to use European hinges, that fit in large diameter drilled holes in the doors. But, I haven't figured out a good way to drill those holes with a hand drill. How are you doing it? I know there are fixtures I can buy that make it easier, but I hate to buy a $100 fixture just to install a pair of hinges.

Well.. i dont know yet. I figured i just use the right size mill, and drill it with the hand drill. But i guess you can just use a wooddrill and drill several holes, and then just take a wood chisel and make it nice in the edges (Im pretty sure this is the way im gonna do it )

Looks pretty awesome, you did a good job with the construction. I really like the whiteness inside the stand, looks very clean and simple. Keep up the good work!
