Default 4g Iwagumi

Hi,

Today I have decided to try aquascaping. I realize I may be jumping in the deep end by starting off with this type of tank, but I am moved by many of the Iwagumi tanks that I see and I wanted to give it a try. I will be chronicling my adventure here. I can use all of the advice you are willing to share, and I am sure to have many questions along the way.

The plan:

Finnex 4g tank
26 watt solar duo boy
Flourite Black Sand
Liquid Ferts
No Co2

Since this is my first attempt at growing anything other than Frogbite and Java Fern, I will be going very slowly and asking lots of questions along the way.

With the tank and equipment chosen, I went out today to find some rocks. I came home with three pieces of rose quartz. Here are some layout ideas. The child stone and the bowing stone will be sunken into the substrate some to give more dramatic difference in height. Let me know what you think.

The tank measures 12 3/8 x 8 x 10. The paper is there for scale.

Thank you for looking.

I have not seen anyone choose to mainstream rock quartz for aquatic lake. not know how effective light ... only in the form of quartz is crushed....it appears very attractive fish swimming near this.

Just a friendly advice, just make sure it is 100% Quartz. And it is not these therapeutic Rock Salt material rock salt - Google Search, b/c if it is it will make your water salty. And eventually dilute.

It is true rose quartz. Completely inert. I picked it up from the LFS. The owner there is on his game.

I received the finnex tank the other day and started messing about with the rock placement. I was not completely happy with anything so I picked up another piece of quartz and broke it into smaller pieces.

I still have to wait till Tuesday for the Flourite Black Sand, but I wanted to put up a couple of pics of what I am thinking about.

I will use the substrate to create as dramatic a slope as I can, but this first pic should give an idea of the placement I am leaning toward.

This second pick is the same layout, but the stones outside the tank are extra pieces that I have to work with.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks. =)

Hi. Thanks for the advice!

I was planning on using the substrate to elevate the main stone and to partially cover the others in order to make the size difference a bit more dramatic.

I would think that going larger than the main stone that I have may overpower the tank. What do you think?

Also, I am planning on planting HC. I think, at least for now, that will be the only plant. Although I was planning on using some floating plants until I get the hang of the nutrient balance.

Thanks again. =)

I did some rearranging this morning. What do you think? Too busy? I realize I should probably wait till I get the substrate in there next week, but I am impatient. =P

Thanks for looking. =)

Picked up the flourite sand and the HC today. I was going to post some ideas for layouts, but I just decided to go with this.

I was debating on HC or Pearl Weed. I thought PW would be easier since I am not running Co2, but they LFS only had HC in stock, so I thought I would give it a try.

Should I be dosing excel or something similar?

Thanks for looking.
