Default 90G Iwagumi/Nature Aquarium Journal

Hi Guys,
After lots of research and quite a few purchases I now have my ADA inspired project underway.
Here are some pics for you an I will add more as the tank progresses.

The cabinet that I built today. It will be spray painted over a couple of weekends.

Milwaukee M957 Reg

Light - 2x150w MH and 4 x 54w T5HO

8000k MH Globes for the light

The rimless and braceless tank is being made 1200mm(L) x 600mm(D) x 500mm(H) in 12mm glass.

Will update as I go....

Thanks Jur4ik,
Yes it will, that was a dry-build to check that all cuts were precise. The holes will be drilled tomorrow and bracing added. Then there will be many coats of primer and paint before the glue and screw. I will be painting it in Gunmetal Grey (of course) using an air compressor and spray gun. Might go a deep orange for the inside to break it up a tad - not sure yet though...

great idea to paint inside in deep orange, or maybe papaya orange
do you have an idea how to build an ADA style cabinet for a bow front tank?

Just took delivery of some glass from the US

Also found some more rocks (so I may change from the reddish ones) and some nice driftwood so it's all starting to come together. I'll update again soon...

Yes I have limited space for a new tank a bow front one would suit best. I want one that looks like Juwel Vision 260 - I cant order the Juwel one because of the build in light and filter. Cabinet might be ok, but I doesnt like the colors Juwel offer.

maybe you can help?

Cal Aqua glass stuff is great quality and expansive too. Why didnt you by the inline difusor ? I have one and it is great

Bowfront cabinets would be easy enough to make but to match the top and base to the tank is the hard part so you need to get tank made first...

Yeah the Cal Aqua glass is very nice and a LOT cheaper than ADA is over here even with freight charges. I liked the idea of having a diffuser in the tank so I can see it working and spin people out who come over and know nothing about planted tanks etc... may get the inline yet though

To make the doors bow require a LOT of extra effort and time so I'd reccomend buying one pre-made if that's what you are after...

I will be getting my ADA Aquasoil today along with some HC. My plan is to utilize the dry start method in two spare 3 foot tanks that I have. Then, when I receive my rimless tank and have the hardscape in place I will "transplant" the planted HC along with the Aquasoil. Can anyone see a problem with this??

hc has ususaly only little roots so I´m afraid you wont be able to "transplant" it together with the hc. Maybe if you put something like a "fresh attitude foil" under a the aquasoil you will have better chance transplanting it.

I agree with Jur4ik, it will be very challenging work to transplant HC. When will you be getting you rimless tank? It maybe easier to wait until then. Also HC need quite sometime before it start spreading. If your rimless thank come in within 2 weeks than I suggest to wait.

Thanks for the replies, I received the soil and HC today in the mail and used a bag of 9L ADA AS Powder in the 3 foot tank and planted the HC. I am looking at 2-4 weeks for the rimless and will probably be travelling at that time for work for a few weeks so the HC will have 5-7 weeks to settle and spread out. When the rimless comes in I will use the normal size AS to do the hardscape and then use something like the head of a shovel to get the soil and HC out in big patches/pieces before filling the tank.

I see what you are saying about the small roots as I just spent half an hour planting so I guess now I'll just have to see how it goes....

I didn't have any fresh attitude foil but instead used some heavy clear plastic....

Hey Jur4ik, I'd be happy to help with the design mate you just need to give me tank dimensions and radius of the bow... email me on marc@fishandpics.com

Cheers Shadow, I decided to paint before fully exploring the option of laminating well mainly because I know how to spray paint. I am not worried about waterproofing as it has had MANY coats of primer and paint.

A couple of pics...

Top coat on:

And the first coat on inside:
