Default Good carpet plant for a low tech tank?

I'm currently setting up a 7.5gal scape with a Betta as fauna, and crypts, elocharis and hygro as flora. It's got 11W of lighting over it, no CO2 (can be arranged if I must!) and as far as ferts - I'm sure I can work out a regime with the dry ferts used on the 47gal.

Does anyone have ideas for a good capret plant? I'm thinking of marsiela hirsuta, but I've heard HC can grow in low light but not sure how to grow it in low light. Ideally it would be small enough to have a few small pebbles showing through the substrate to gain a more 'wild' feel. Thanks!

Hi, I used to grow HC with 11w over a 20l tank (and liquid carbon supplementation).
Growth was much slower than with high light but the plant was healthy...

I think Marsilea would grow too high for a carpet with low lights (anyway, that's what it did in my tanks).

Hi I also have grown HC under 18wCF in a 60x30x30. I would recommend it for low light tanks; I like the leaf shape better in low light to.

Did you have any ferts in?

18W for 60x30x30cm, will it be enough light for HC to grow low?

Everyone's mileage might very, but I grew HC Low in a Mini-S (31x18x24cm). with 18watts cf light. A few inches shorter than the 30cm size. I dosed only excel for co2. The tank had a pretty big hill from left to right. One thing I did observe is that the HC on top of the hill (closer to the light) grow much thicker than the HC down the hill. Not surprising. since tank height plays a major role in plant growth.

I like marsillea, I have found (in my limited experience) that it's less prone to uprooting when first planted, plus it just looks better than the HC in my tank.

P.P.

Probably beccause it is closer to the light. I assume your HC also creeping instead of growing tall.
