Rotala sp. mini Type 2

I have a bunch of Rotala sp. mini Type 2, but somehow the way it grows changes. Is this normal for the plant?

It would first start out small tiny leaves and then sometimes it would grow into bigger leaves and then go back to the small tiny leaves.

?!?!?!

Any pictures? Perhaps it's a lighting issue? The leaves grew fairly much uniformed when I kept this plant.
