Default Fissidens splachnobryoides

I know there has been discussion about this plant over at APC and PT, but I had to try it for myself, so I purchased some from Aquatic magic.

I bought 3 portions and he sent 4 all but one was green. They were all dried slabs of dirt with this moss attached and rooted into the dirt. I placed them into 3 different tanks.

The first being my ADA 'mini' m with a 27 watt pc and co2. The second tank is an ADA 60p, about 18 gallons with 2 Coralife T-5 double light strips at 56 total watts. The 60p also has injected co2. The third tank is a 15 gallon with one light strip as mentioned previously, and no co2.

I receive the pads of moss on Thursday and quickly placed them into the tank. As of today, with the exception of the one brown pad, they are all green and showing some growth even in the tank with no co2. Looks pretty good so far and I will post pics soon.

Sorry for the poor quality of these photos. After 3 days of submersed conditions there seems to be some new growth. So far I'm happy with what I see. These are in my 15 gallon low light non co2 tank.

I also have some of these. I keep mine in a 28l with 11w and co2. Works fine for me.

Cool, Cool, I have been wanting to try that stuff.

I can't for you to have some available, I will be getting on that list.

Is that the stuff that grows in the US? I think I have some of that stuff growing in the streams around my house as well as some liverwort (kind looks like pellia) species.

I don't think this grows in the US but I could be wrong.

Wasn't there an AGA article talking about some US native moss that Tony Gomez accidently started to grow. It's probably a different species though.

Good to see someone having some luck with it. I have heard mixed results with this plant. Put me on the list when you have some to share!

Fissidens splachnobryoides come from Asia, they are quite similar to the F. nobilis mini but a bit longer & thinner...
Normally fissidens sp. need low light, cool temp. (20-26oC), with CO2 injected, they grow faster....

Roy, any updates?
Blue_dolphin, do you know of any sources for getting a sample of F. nobilis mini to the states?

Martin, It's still alive and has grown some. It has been almost 3 months now and believe it can grow submersed. I still have it in my 15 gal with 24watts and NO co2.
I'll take a pic and post it up.

How's it doing now?

It's a pretty little moss.
