Default My Glosso wont grow a carpet. help.

I am not quite sure why my Glosso isn't growing low to the substrate. I have 4 wpg of compact fluorescents, I have diy co2, pfertz dosing, flourish excel everyday, eco-complete.

Not quite sure what is wrong. Can someone help?

Thanks!

Well the best way to plant Glosso is one sprig at a time. Clip the runners so that you have individual plantlets consisting of 1 node. Then plant them about 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart. I have found that this is the best way to encourage low growth.

Then I would clip the upward growth and this should force out new lower growth. Make sure you clip it all the way down the to surface of the substrate.

I planted some about 2 weeks ago and its all growing low. I seperated each plant from runners. I just put them straight into the substrate up to the leaf. I have runners going all over the place and they are staying low. Also 4wpg in lighting you really need pressurized CO2.

It should be Ok, higher Kelvin and lamps with blue color its better but I think it's not the reason, As you have good and strong light.

Some time when I had my glosso, when I fertilized with magnesium sulfate it grow more horizontal but I didn't know for sure if was that the reason.

Some pictures of how to plant from Sergio Veterano in a Portuguese fórum

Use T5 6500K with CO2 and KNO3, you will see it creeps everywhere. T5 will force it to lie low to the substrate.

Any update?

What kind of substrate do you have and how much CO2 do you add? Your lighting seems to be more than sufficient.

You may not have enough co2 going into the tank. DIY isn't extremely effect when you have really high light, IME.

It's not that it's not effective, there's just not enough being produced.

Or maybe I'm reading it wrong.

How big of a tank is this? Gallons?

I did mean it won't produce enough, but also that it's inconsistent.

Tank size would be good to know.

I think light is problem. In tank where is MH 1.2W/l gloso/Heteranthera zosterifolia is growing up as arrow and in tank with t8 1w/l is growing as carpet.CO2 is at max. on the level thet fish can stand it.

Light could be a problem but 4wpg is more than enough light (CF is not MH bulb, it's more like neon tube source). IMO, spectrum or PAR could be eventual problem in case that the tank is too deep or bulb is too old, but 4WPG (no matter is it MH or Neon T5/T8 light) is more than sufficient light for Glosso.
