Hi,

I used to have this plant in a previous layout in my 450l tank.
My opinion : easy to grow like all Hygrophilas, nice brown/orange colour on top leaves with high lighting.
But beware the name : this plant is compact if you talk about height (even though it reached 30-40cm easily), but it's not compact at all if you talk about width. It can quickly reach 25-30cm with many side shoots and its leaves are very big. This is why I had to cut the top and replant it to replace the old stem quite often.

Nice plant, but I would use it only in a real big tank.

Here on the right :

And here in the middle (the tank is 150cm wide) :

I have this plant buy the bucket full. Its anything buy compact..It will grow huge and take over if not trimmed almost daily.. It grows compact in a aquatic plant farm due to its growing conditions.
Throw it in your tank, and it can be as big as any sword like plant.

Thanks for your helpful and informative replies.

What you said is what I figured. I pictured it to stay smaller, but I sometimes don't trust wholesalers pics when it comes to newer plants.

if I can find some something like staurgoyne or close to it, maybe Hygro Puerto Vehlo as a more realistic compact growing plant that will not grow up rather out and bushy and has moderately sized leaves. I like the darker, solid green color of the Puerto Vehlo as a border plant to a nice bush of stargrass... any ideas?

p.s. Beautiful tank mellon man, that looks to be an ideal usage for hygro compact.

I liked this plant when i got it, My biggest problem has not been its size but the fact that the happier it is in the tank the faster it likes to shed leaves to grow new ones. Kompact is not a good name for it, I think Hygro. 'Big Bushy' would be better.

There's another plant that might suit your needs Chadly : Hygrophila corymbosa "mini".
I have some in one of my tanks for almost 5 months and it hasn't grown higher than 3 inches (but it's a lowlight, non-co2, no ferts tank).

Here is what it looks like (it's the light green one) :

Thanks, but it was still "under construction" at that time
