Smile blue33 13g first planted tank

Hi there,
This is my first time in planted tank, it started from end Feb08 this year, is about 5 months old now. It was a disposal tank found by one of the cleaner. Not much scape planning in the beginning as it was my first time dealing with aquatic plant at that time, so i was as eager like everyone, what ever plant i think is nice i will put it in. Hope next time i will showcase a better scape. Is a 13g cube tank, front is curve.

My Sagittaria Subulata open flower yesterday afternoon.

One of my Amano shrimp,

Enjoy! Cheers

Cool little scape! What is your fish stock?

What species of plant is that little one that the Bleeding heart tetra is swimming next to in the top photo? I like it!

It looks as though it has white on which means it is not aquatic or it is sand in which case it is anubias.
It is a nice scape but the instant switch from the dark green of the hiargrass to the bright green of the glosso is too distracting IMO, and it also needs a mid ground plant or build that left side up and just have the glosso area open.

Thanks, Aaron

Thanks guy! I've about 30+ fauna inside this tank, which is alot of bioload for a small tank. I dont know the name of that centre small plant, it was so small when i bought it from LFS, i personally find it so cute.

Thanks! Maybe it is not an aquatic plant, but is growing everyday. Was trying to see 2 foreground effect on glosso and Japs hairgrass in the tank.

There is lots to like about this scape, but I donīt like the unnatural look of the division line in the foreground, and there is no real mid ground, apart from the Blyxa on the left.

Dave.

Although I agree with what you said, I think blue33 just kinda used this tank as an experiment and put whatever he had into the tank since it was his first planted tank. For what it's worth with a little more midground hardscape and a more natural foreground it's would actually be an impressive scape. Very healthy looking plants.

I agreed with you on foreground plant between Glosso and Jap Hairgrass fighting for the space as i like to see what will happen between them and the result given, there is mid ground plant in the centre "Tonina sp. 'Belem'" if you look carefully, is just that the angle shot and "Ludwigia brevipes" is taking up the massive space within the small cube tank 13g/50l. I can easily get rid of Japs hairgrass and show a beautiful pic with Glosso as the foreground plant. As this is my first planted tank as what "J House" said, is my experiment on planting, i would like to learn how to crawl first before i fly and how many people succeeded in crawling first. If we dont know how to do well in planting then we can forget about scaping as well, i'm sure everyone would agree on this. Sorry for my straight spoken.

Thanks "J House" for explaining.

Beautiful scape. It took me a second to figure out what the Amano shrimp was climbing on (looked like a moss ball at first glance).

Thanks John! Yes is a moss ball, but it got eaten up by American flag fish previously, left the stalks, hoping it can recover again. I've removed it to my quarantine tank already.

This is a very nice scape. I agree with the former comments about a midground. I think I would try something like Crypt Wendtii 'Green Gecko' in the dark area right center. It would add some brightness to the darkened area.

Thanks! There are Crypt(leaves changes to pretty dark colour from green when i bought them) around there, still growing(slow grower), as i've planted there recently only.
