yeah and in my opinion if the tank is dark and you put a black background the tank will be more darker, Is the tank is brigth and you put a black bacground the plants will be more brigther. if you put a blue or similar color in your tank the thank will apear moer bright but in mi opinion if you put a white background the tank will apear more bright/dark some places very bright and some places very dark. For me it cause unbalance in hte tank armony.

I'd say black (since it seems you don't have enough space behind the tank to make an enlighted background) but giving it a try is indeed the best way...

Wow! this tank is amazing! I personally think that a mix of red, yellow, green, and blue light would look great! If not all of those than yellow and blue.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Today I'm going to try a few different colors and post the results here to get some opinions.

This was done by using white butcher paper tapes to the wall and a light shining from below: I like it and think I will go with this look for the contest photos.

Very nice layout, and awesome colors! Looks like you have two types of Java fern - Narrow and needle leaf? I like how you placed them - they providing great sense of depth.
But if i were you, i will try that vertical growth on the left side to beat down for the final picture (to sloping above Anubias).

Thank you Rastaman,

Can you please explain what you mean by,
"i will try that vertical growth on the left side to beat down for the final picture (to sloping above Anubias)"

I'm curious what you mean by this and if it is what I think you mean, then i'm willing to try it.

Ahhhh, yes I agree...I'm try to pull some of the needleleaf rhizomes out from the back right and stuff it in those places.

btw the "narrow" version seems to grow up while the "needle" type grows more at 90 dregees.

I know the crypts. on the left side haven't fully grown in yet, but even when grown in I think it still may leave that space too open. The rest of the tank is FULL of plants, and has a very nice gradient from background to foreground. But on the left side you see the Blyxa Japonica and there's a sharp break between it and the Crypt. that breaks the flow of the scape. Also, this may change once the Crypt. fill in completely, but the fact that you can see the back wall really takes away from the stream effect. I feel like I should be looking out from a canoe in the midst of the jungle seeing all the lush dense growth coming at me, but the back left just breaks that feel. Kinda like a clearing or something killing the mood. Maybe some B. Aubertii behind the B. Japonica to transition to the Crypts. ?

The plants look AMAZING and whatever direction this scape goes it is a great idea to have a long lasting scape rather than a short lived one. Overall this is an amazing composition ( I can't believe you can get the L. Acurata that RED) , but these were the things that kind of distracted my eye when viewing the photos.

Thanks,
Creighton

Crieghton, thank you for your comment. There is actually some Crypt blassii in that little gap on the left side. I will definitely update when this scape evolves. This tank has truly been a pleasure to maintain, it is very low maintenance. It will be interesting to see how the Aquasoil holds up in the long run.

What is the normal problem with aquasoil over a long time...say 5 years? Does it just break down and turn to muck? I can't wait to see it all grown in!

You I don't know but my plan is to find out with this tank...I dieing to do a large Iwagumi scape with this tank. I hope I can hold out, my creative juices start to flow.

Roy, call Jeff Senske or Jordan for that matter since he is a reseller for ADA now and convince them to get you another tank for free for your large Iwagumi set up.
It will be a write off for ADA, call it R&D since you are gonna let it go as long as it can to document how long the AS works.

Yeah, right
