Yeah, i think it would be. Plus, aesthetically it might not work out really well, as the laterite would most likely work its way to the surface at some point; AS is pretty light and easily disturbed, so I'd stick to just AS...and, I thought I might mention that AS Amazonia and Amazonia II have different effects on water chemistry...check 'em out here
